New rules for fur farms in Minnesota have been finalized by the Minnesota DNR and will take effect by the end of the year. The new rules include important (but insufficient) animal care standards, new requirements for disease reporting and record-keeping, and give the DNR authority to inspect farms.
In addition, the rules allow licensed fur farms to acquire animals “only if the animals are captive reared” and acquired from another fur farm. This part of the rule should prevent future experiments like the Hough fur farm’s (Barnesville, MN) “farming” of live-trapped skunks in 2025!
