River Jordan Mink Ranch in Eagle Mountain, UT

For the first time since at least 1970, the number of mink pelts “produced” on Utah mink farms has dropped below 100,000, according to new data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The number of mink farms in the state has declined along with pelt production. The River Jordan Mink Ranch (pictured) in Eagle Mountain is one of the farms that has closed recently. At its height, more mink were killed on this one farm than were killed in the entire state of Utah last year! We’re happy to see the sheds taken down, and cages that once imprisoned thousands of mink sitting empty.
