Earlier this year in testimony before state legislative committees, Fur Commission USA Executive Director Challis Hobbs claimed, “mink farming in the U.S. supports over 100 family farms.” It turns out that he had rounded up significantly! Here’s a slide from Challis’ presentation at last week’s FCUSA annual meeting. They count 69 mink farms nationwide as members. There may be a few small farms that aren’t FCUSA members, but it’s also possible that some of these member farms are not currently in operation. We think there are at most 69 mink farms remaining in the U.S., and that number is dropping!
